Prologue Documentary #5 - Safety First

December 2003.

It was a time of innocence, when explorers knew little of the mysterious Bahro, and were unafraid to challenge the authority of the D'ni Restoration Council.

It was a time of change, when Phil Henderson invited Douglas Sharper to travel on Yeesha's Journey, and Douglas accepted.

It was a time when minor concerns seemed more important, and explorers seeking freedom faced off against the DRC and their safety-minded supporters such as the members of Safety First (243).

The Great Tree and Cavern Communications Network are proud to offer this portal back in time with the latest episode of the ongoing Prologue Documentaries: Safety First, available in five languages in Windows Media and Quicktime formats, and in English only streaming through CCN's CavernCast ITunes feed.

Streaming CavernCast (Lo-Res): http://caverncast.libsyn.com/
Complete Episode Archive (Hi-Res): http://www.thegreattree.com/media/

Please stay tuned for future announcements on how you can participate as an actor for Episodes 6 and 7.

Myst Online goes Episodic!

Today, Cyan announced on the Myst Online boards a move to episodic content:
Dear Myst Online fans,

It has been more than two months since Myst Online was launched and the cavern is still buzzing with activity. Behind the scenes, we've been focusing on expanding the Myst Online universe with continuous content and Age updates, improving the technology, and listening to you – the fans.

Now, we're pleased to announce that we're ready to move on to the next phase.

Based on your feedback and in-game actions, we are making some big improvements. Starting with the next update, we are making the move to regularly scheduled episodic content release. By having a set schedule of updates, players can be ready when major events will be happening in the cavern. That means that the release of all of an episode's content and story (e.g. new Ages, pages, clothing, character interaction, story revelations, artifacts and intrigue) will be packed within a single week each month, rather than spreading out the releases over the entire month.

Between episodes, feel free to take a deep breath, talk amongst yourselves, delve into the new content more deeply, create your own events, explore with your friends, discuss and dissect everything that took place, and prepare for the next episode.

This change will take place immediately and our new episode "Scars" will begin on Saturday, May 19th. The beginning is over. Everything in the cavern is about to change. This episode’s highlights include:

• The D'ni Restoration Council (DRC), often criticized for being "overly cautious," is stunned when their caution and control is unable to save the life of someone very close.
• A never-before-seen new Age is released featuring a vast landscape with hours of unique game play to solve by yourself or with friends.
• The first hints of an impending conflict emerge and the repercussions will change the course of the restoration forever.

We couldn't have gotten here without you! Thank you so much for being a vital part of our world.

Mysterium 2007

Scraper, one of the members of the Mysterium committee, has posted this information about Mysterium 2007:
!shorah

We are pleased to announce that Mysterium 2007 will be held the weekend of
July 20 - 22. This is especially exciting this year because it falls on the
weekend before Comic Con, allowing interested people to stay longer after
Mysterium and attend both events should they choose.

Mysterium is an annual gathering of fans of Uru and the Myst series. Many
Mysterium attendees are members of online communities centered around the
games. They have grown to be friends online, and Mysterium gives them a
chance to meet face to face.

We sincerely hope that everyone can attend this gathering!

- Mysterium Committee -

P.S. There is no connection between Mysterium and Comic Con. The Mysterium
Committee neither endorses nor opposes Comic Con.

Random Site of the Week, Feb. 5

The Myst Embassy has put together a YouTube playlist of fan created videos.

You'll find machinema videos here from prolific fans like Kam, Marten, Vortmax, Wutt Evah as well as others. You'll even find the winner from the Myst Embassy's Myst Trailer contest from last year. Check them out, make comments and let me know if I've missed any!

Non-spoiler RSS feeds

A lot of the feeds that feed into Myst Headlines have all sorts of spoilers. If you are trying to avoid spoilers, but want to know when something changes, Andrew Plotkin has the solution.

He's set up three different RSS feeds of various levels of spoilers. You can find them on his Uru Live: Change Notices page. These are also available on LiveJournal as: urunotes_nspoil, urunotes_loc and urunotes_spoil.

I don't know if I should add any of them to the Myst Headlines site, as they duplicate a lot of what you see at other places. If you have a strong opinion, contact us.

So consider this my random site of the week, except it wasn't all that random....

Looking for Group?

Tweek posted this on the MO:UL forums:
As Uru Live progresses we realise that not everyone is the social butterfly that perhaps they wish to be.

So we bring you a new section to the DJC forums, Looking For Group.

If you are looking to get a group together for multiplayer puzzles, or perhaps a group of people for Ahyoheek or Hide and Seek then you can post a message stating when and were you would like a group.

Other players can come together and sign up for the groups they would like to join.

We hope that not only will people be able to enjoy the game by getting awkward multiplayer puzzles done, but you will also meet new people and forge new friendships.

Informal Explorer gathering on Uru community

Butch posted this on the DRC forum and a few other forums:
Are you an Explorer looking to help the overall Explorer community? Are you a Myst player who wants to make a statement about how what you've seen in the Cavern or read on the forums has affected you? Do you have an idea how we can help the community grow into something organized around principles of respect, trust and Uru?
Are you ready to take some kind of action?

Me, too.

3rd Annual D'ni St. Patrick's Parade

SuperGram posted this in UruObsession and a few other places:
3rd ANNUAL D'NI ST. PATRICK'S PARADE AND PARTY
MARCH 17, 2007 1PM EST TO BE HELD IN MO-UL

I'm beginning the plans for the third annual D'ni St. Pats parade to be held this year in UruLive. Many of you have participated in the past but many have not. The 1st was held on Tapestry Event Shard, the 2nd on D'Mala and now the 3rd will be held on MO-UL. As I've said during the last two St. Pat's events...."You don't have to be Irish to wear green." It's a great event, lots of fun and a wonderful way to celebrate UruLive. So get out the green and get ready for a really huge event. It may seem a bit early to begin the plans but believe me it takes alot of time and work. If you plan on participating, you'll need alot of practice with marching, just ask anyone who's done it in the past two parades...I will try to set up people to help you with your practice if needed.

Right now I'm in the planning stages...I will pretty much be following the plans from last years notes with a few modifications. Right now I'm looking for volunteers to help plan the event. Please PM me here ASAP if you would like to help with the planning and when we have enough help, I'll schedule a meeting to go over the plans...
So if you are interested in helping out, contact SuperGram.

Meet fellow Myst Players!

Mysterium is a yearly gathering of Myst and Uru enthusiasts, held sometime in the summer. Last year,it was held in Spokane, WA (home of Cyan) and included a trip to Cyan itself.

The location for Mysterium 2007 is going to be Los Angeles, CA this year. Watch the Mysterium website for more info (it still needs to be updated with the location information for 2007).

Additionally, for those who can't make the trek to Los Angeles, there will be another gathering on the East Coast of the US. See the Gathered: East Coast for details.

For our Australian fans, Mystralia is organizing as we speak. (I'll be adding their RSS feed to this site today).

And for our European fans, EuroMysterium is the yearly convention. They missed it last year, but hopefully they will be having one this year!

This news is from maximusdb3 on the Myst Online forums:

The WeeKIly is a Newsletter sent to your KI. I have yet decided as to weather this will be Bi-weekly or "as the events unfold" kind of newsletter though I'll probably start with the later and see how it goes from there. As for now The WeeKIly will only be covering big events taking place in the cavern, though there has been interest in expanding toward neighborhood events down the road.

If you are interested in receiving The WeeKIly you can shoot a KI mail (be sure to put down your KI# within the mail) saying so to Maximus (KI# 88818) or his "associate" WeeKIly Reporter (KI# 1262006). I would prefer that you send to WeeKIly Report as that would be one less step for me, but I'm not picky. If you happen to spot one of us in the city or a hood you can also PM us to be added.

Added RSS feed

I added the RSS feed for the DRC Liaison blog.

Random Site of the Week, Jan 8 2007

Hey there Myst fans! The news feed is going to start posting a random site of the week from the Myst Embassy Nexus. Hopefully this might let you know about a corner of the Uru community that you might not have otherwise seen. I hope to do it on Mondays, but I might not be always spot on on that ;)

Also, there are 'Featured Sites' on the Myst Embassy Nexus. These are listed first in their respective category, and a random one from the site is shown at the bottom of every page. These are sites we think are particularly useful or important, so check those out too!

As this is the inaugural week for this, I'm going to post five sites to get people started:
  • KISpace.org - a directory of KI numbers for MO:UL, posted by the users themselves.
  • United Shards - Until Uru is still alive! The United Shards are a group of shard admins and players who continue to develop UU.
  • The Mantis Parable - The Mantis Parable is an award winning CG animated short by Josh Staub, the Art director of Cyan Worlds.
  • The Myst Foundry - a collection of IM avatars, desktop images and other goodies for your computer.
  • Bakasavant Productions - home of the DRC Public Saftey Announcements, a machinima comedy series based in MO:UL
Hope y'all have fun with these. And remember, if you see a good site that's not on the Embassy Nexus, submit it!
